A mural is any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall, ceiling or other permanent surfaces. A distinguishing characteristic of mural painting is that the architectural elements of the given space are harmoniously incorporated into the picture. With a distinct style embellished with linear grace and high impact colour harmonies, the murals of Mysore & Karnataka State have a romantic and exciting history and are equal in artistic value to the better-known sculptures from the state. There is enough evidence to prove that mural art has played as significant a role in the heritage of Karnataka. Mysore paintings are mostly artworks representing mythological scenes, figures and the royal family. Either they were executed as individual paintings or as murals for display on the walls of palaces, mansions, temples and other religious places
